The Head of Senior School, as part of the College Executive Leadership Team (ELT), plays a vital role in leading and contributing to the health and vitality of our Christian educational community, which has as its Mission Statement:
 
St Philip’s Christian College will continue to provide quality education in a caring, secure and challenging learning environment based on Christian beliefs, values and practice.

St Philip’s Christian College Newcastle, has almost 1400 students and is located in the charming residential Waratah, an inner-city suburb of Newcastle. Founded in 1982, the College has become a leader in ‘whole of life’ education, attaining regional and national recognition in a range of areas including the Performing Arts, STEM, VET and Christian Mission, while maintaining a record of high academic achievement.

With their aim to develop a range of strategies to meet the needs of every student, so that every student realises their unique, God-given potential, the College has developed a range 21st century education practices, that empower students to learn collaboratively, so that they develop the skills of communication and critical thinking, while being encouraged to give expression to their creativity.

At St Philip's Christian College Newcastle, the aim is to provide an enriching and empowering education; one that transcends the discipline of learning and the acquisition of competencies, to the development of a deep sense of the greatness of life and learning.

The Role
Due to the continued growth of the College, an opportunity has arisen for a relational, innovative, Christian leader to lead the Senior School Team in continuing the development and delivery of a sustainable, innovative vision for powerful, whole of life learning. Commencing in Term 1 2021, or earlier if possible, the Head of Senior School, will have the motivation, commitment and capacity to lead the Senior School with a flexible, future-focused approach.
 
The Head of Senior School will be:

  • A collaborative and inspiring educator, with strong relational capacity
  • A visionary leader, inspiring staff and students to create a better future
  • A strategic thinker, who supports a culture of high expectations and aspirations
  • A learning leader, who is self-aware, confident, and empathetic
  • A resolute, authentic and resilient leader
The Head of Senior School, will work collaboratively with the other Heads of Schools as an influential, positive, creative and visible leader. They will be able to inspire and motivate staff and students to take risks with their learning and find their pathway through, and beyond the College. The capacity to build strong relationships, communicate effectively and lead in challenging contexts, is central to this role.

It is essential for the successful applicant to have a focus on student-centred learning, a well-organised and solution-focused approach, as well as a strong understanding of emerging trends and best practice in national and international contexts.


Key Selection Criteria
  • A personal Christian faith, with a commitment to the principles of Christian schooling, including being fully supportive of the Mission Statement, Vision Statements and Core Values of the College
  • Highly relational leadership, demonstrating excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a capacity to build high quality relationships that engender trust and respect, within the College community, and beyond
  • Collaborative and inspirational leadership, building highly effective teams to create and implement sustainable, future-focused programs
  • Demonstrated experience in leading innovation in learning and curriculum development, based on an understanding of current learning practices, research and pedagogy
  • Strong pastoral expertise with a deep knowledge of current approaches in well-being
  • Evidence of strong operational and management experience with a solution-focused lens
