Axis Church, North Lakes is located on the Northside of Brisbane and is part of the Wesleyan Methodist Church of Australia, is seeking a SENIOR PASTOR

We have a congregation of approximately 500, attending across 3 services each Sunday. 

Axis Church has been operating in North Lakes since 2012 and is committed to evangelising and investing in the local community, Australia and overseas missions.  Every person is invited to belong. Every person deserves to know the love Jesus Christ has to offer and to be made new.

The Senior Pastor for Axis Church is responsible for leading the church into the future with conviction, vision and humility.  The Senior Pastor Profile:
 
Personal Qualities
  • Committed and spiritually mature follower of Jesus Christ with a consistent life of prayer and internalising God’s word.
  • Approachable and relates to others easily with a desire to invest in relationships with the congregation as well as the unchurched.
  • Person of integrity, trust and confidentiality.
  • If the Pastor is married, he/she must demonstrate evidence of a loving family with a supportive spouse who is ministry minded and participates in the life of the church.
 Pastoral Qualities
  • Preaches the Word of God with passion, thoughtfulness and creativity.
  • Preaches in a way that inspires the hearers to become doers of the Word.
  • Believes that winning the lost is the primary goal of the church and is also accountable for the discipleship of all believers into full Christian maturity.
  • Leads in a way that inspires us to meet the needs of others in very practical ways.
  • Places a high value on pastoral care and visitation.
  • A teacher who will increase the congregation’s knowledge of Biblical history, culture and theological concepts.
 Professional Qualities
  • Holds a Bachelor of Theology (or similar) while a Master’s in theological studies is preferred.
  • Embraces the Bible as the inerrant Word of God and adheres to the tenets and traditional values of the Wesleyan Church.
  • Able to speak the truth of God’s word boldly in a spirit of humility, kindness and gentleness.
  • Pastoral ministry experience required.
  • It is preferable that the candidate has served several years in a multi-staff church.
  • Pastor must be a member of the Wesleyan Church or be willing to move credentials to the Wesleyan Church.
Leadership
  • Must guide staff, recognise their gifts and mentor them to refine their talents for future leadership.
  • Communicates effectively to the church concerning the vision and future direction with a passion that inspires all to get involved.
  • Organise teams/staff to achieve long and short-term goals while continually assessing progress and adjusting as needed.
  • The Pastor should lead boldly with confidence while being flexible enough to embrace new ideas and be humble enough to accept constructive criticism.
  • Pastor delegates certain responsibilities to the staff but ensure the task is completed effectively.
  • The Pastor should be temperate in challenging times.  Difficult conversations including addressing conflict should be done in a timely manner with gentleness and kindness but with truth.
This is a full-time, initial 2-year appointment, position commencing in 2020 or earlier.  Overseas applicants are welcome to apply.
