About The Church Next Door.

The Church Next Door is a Jesus-centered church based around the eastern suburbs of Melbourne. Our story began in 2012 as a small team with a great desire to glorify God and be his church together. We have since grown and now find ourselves with a high proportion of young families with small children, although our heart is to be a diverse family of believers. Organising ourselves in Missional Communities, we seek to make disciples who can make disciples and live out the truths of the gospel in the everyday stuff of life.

The Church Next Door is affiliated with Churches of Christ in Victoria & Tasmania, and is part of the SOMA Australia network and City to City Australia.

For more information about our heart and vision, please check out our website:

About the role.

As a church we are looking for an enthusiastic and organised leader to come and oversee the running of our children’s program, and join with us as we live out the good news of Jesus together. We recognise that our children are a special part of our mission to make disciples and our aim is to serve them and our church family well. We’re excited to meet the right person to help us.

Currently the role will be funded for one day per week with the aim to increase it in the future.

If you are a mature leader who loves the vision and mission of The Church Next Door then we would love to speak with you.

Key responsibilities:

- Coordinate our Sunday children’s program (‘The Kids Next Door’).
- Oversee the administration of volunteers for the children’s program, including safety checks, rostering, etc.
- Partner with existing staff and teams in overseeing church projects that involve children.
- Contribute to the overall discipleship and care of the church through participation in a missional community.

 Key skills, gifting and character:

- Have a deep love for Jesus and a passion for building up his church.
- Have a deep love for people and a passion for working with children.
- Previous ministry experience including working with children.
- Character and competency in line with the Churches of Christ in Victoria and Tasmania (CCVT) Code of Ethics for Ministers.

The following skills and experience are desirable (not essential) for the fulfilment of this role:

- Experience in leading people, particularly volunteers.
- Formal theological training and leadership development.
- Experience with missional communities.
