The Baptist Churches of NSW & ACT has a strong commitment to assisting affiliated local churches to protect children and vulnerable people from harm. Our Creating Safe Spaces safe church training program is an important part of ensuring as far as is possible that local churches conduct ministry that is safe for children and vulnerable people. In addition, in response to the recommendations of the recent Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse, as well as changing legislative and insurance requirements we will soon be launching a “Safe Church Health Check” audit process to assess whether local churches are complying with the National Principles for Child Safe Organisations. 

The Safe Church Coordinator role is a part time (0.8 FTE) contact role from March 2019 until 31 December 2020. This contract role will include: 

  • Coordinating the Creating Safe Spaces (CSS) Safe Church Health Check audit process 
  • Involvement in the CSS training program including:
    • Presenting workshops 
    • Training and equipping other presenters 
    • CSS curriculum and policy development 
  • Implementing the Person of Concern risk management process for known offenders in local churches where required 

This Safe Church Coordinator role provides an opportunity to inspire and influence our movement of Baptist Churches respond to the recommendations of the recent Royal Commission and build a culture of safe ministry and accountability to protect children and vulnerable people from harm.
