More about the role

A Specialised Dementia Carer (SDC) provides personalised care to residents living in our new facility in Cardiff. You will be in an exciting multi-skilled role that provides personalised care to residents who may be living with dementia in accordance with HammondCare’s philosophy of care and values. You will provide assistance with the full range of duties including personal care, maintenance of the cottage (eg. cooking, cleaning, laundry) and encouraging residents to engage in activities of daily living (eg. participation in domestic tasks), leisure activities and wider community involvement.
You may also get the opportunity to interact with family and friends of residents and work collaboratively to maximize residents’ quality of life.

The SDC role is varied and fulfilling and you really have the opportunity to “make someone’s day”. Comprehensive ongoing training and development is also provided as part of the role.

About you

• You genuinely enjoy assisting elderly people, have a regard and understanding of the older generation and want to make a difference to their lives;
• You have an understanding of dementia (or wish to gain an understanding) and  how to build relationships with people with dementia;
• Past experience of providing care to elderly people in a personal (e.g. caring for a family member) or work situation will be well regarded;
• The ability to be flexible and adapt to changing needs;
• Good administrative and computer skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Able to demonstrate empathy and patience.
• Able to work a minimum 20 hours per fortnight working shifts

Role Demands
The SDC role is a physical one, and physical capabilities are required to meet the role demands. We train staff in safe work practices and you need to be aware that the role requires you to be physically capable for all aspects of this role.
