More about the role
HammondCare requires a passionate “hands on” cook who can work with staff to transform food in our nursing homes, hostels and HammondCare At Home carers, to coach staff in interesting and accessible cooking and achieve the result of a vibrant food culture. This will be led by our Executive Chef and Head Chef whom will practice and teach HammondCare’s staff in great cooking and be an integral part of the Learning & Development team.

The role of Cook (Tinonee Gardens) works within the Mission and Mission in Action of HammondCare to ensure a great food experience for residents and continuous improvements for residents dining. The Cook is a strategic hands on role.

The essence of this role:
• Work closely with Head chef on improving the residents/patients dining experience
• Training and educating cooks and carers Training carers and cooks in the kitchens and cottages, with hands – on support in all food related skills and expertise
• Assist Head Chef with research and development and design of menus and recipes for the group
• Inspiring and maintaining and rich and vibrant food culture;
• Assisting the organisation to manage food quality and risk
• Assist the HammondCare residential dietician on improving the dietary needs for the residents.

About you
• Commitment to engage and align with HammondCare’s Christian Mission, Motivation and Mission in Action.
• Minimum 5 years’ experience in a la carte cooking and food service
• Demonstrated competence in a team and business management, most likely gained through significant restaurant/ catering experience
• An effective and engaging communicator. Training skills or related staff coaching and mentoring experience would be highly desirable.
• Demonstrated knowledge in the maintenance of risk management associated with food, including experience with HACCP principles
• A passion for coaching and mentoring staff to cook interesting and accessible food.
• A passion for working with older people, particularly through with dementia
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Empathy and patience.
