Job Description:

This newly created role is an exciting mix of community organising, supporter mobilisation and grass roots campaigning.

TEAR’s Community Organising Team desire to see Christians in Australia actively working towards a just and compassionate world in which all people have the opportunity to achieve their God-given potential. Together, we are building a coordinated movement of volunteers who advocate political decision makers on issues of social justice, speak at churches, and fundraise for TEAR’s life changing work with people living with poverty. This is a huge mission that is rewarding, demanding, challenging and creative.

Our team is an open and collaborative group who have clear goals, are accountable to each other and work in ways that foster creativity, honesty, learning and innovation. With our eyes firmly fixed on the Kingdom of God we aim for scale and impact.

Who is TEAR?

TEAR is a Christian development, relief and advocacy organisation responding to global poverty and injustice. TEAR supporters are a thriving grassroots movement of Christians in Australia responding to God’s call to bring an end to poverty. TEAR’s creative and courageous initiatives not only enable the work of our international partners, but also bring about God’s kingdom through changes in global systems of injustice and biblically-shaped lives here in Australia.

Job Requirements:

This role is for you if you:

  • Love the church and social justice; your goal is to make sure that every Christian in Australia is challenged and empowered to make biblically-shaped responses to poverty and injustice.
  • Have experience community organising; you may have gained this in a union, through electoral organising, working for a cause or another form of faith rooted organising.
  • Are a change maker; you can empower others on a massive and strategic scale to ignite volunteer action on social justice issues.
  • Love working with people and enjoy getting out and about, networking with a variety of key stake holders.
  • Have excellent negotiation and relationship building skills, you value others and work collaboratively to balance campaign goals with the limitations of technology.
  • Know the difference between mobilising and organising and can develop contextualised strategies that best empower people for action.
  • Are excited about technological innovations and finding new ways to increase impact.
