Brief Description of Program:

Fusion Oakleigh Youth and Community Centre provides a range of social, recreation and educational programs for the community and provides a range of community development programs. Working in partnership with local organisations we deliver a range of programs tailored to build community development and strengthen the local community.

Fusion’s vision is for transformed communities where young people thrive and the community centres is a key part of this work in Oakleigh, Hughesdale and surrounding areas. 

Reporting Relationships

Role Description for Community Centre Coordinator


To coordinate a range of social, educational and recreational programs operating from the Fusion Oakleigh Youth and Community centre in such a way that they provide a creative response to building community and resilience. This includes direct service provision, support of volunteers and administration.

Brief Description of Role: 

To plan and resource the implementation of a term programs including a range of programs designed to meet the needs of the whole community.  

To recruit a team of volunteers to help with the program delivery.

To complete a range of administrative tasks in connection with the program and smooth operations of the community centre. 

To coordinate a range of programs that are designed to meet local needs and comply with funding obligations and Fusion’s vision and Mission. At times this will include program creation and delivery as well as liaising with other programs.

Manage day-to day operations of the community centre in line with Fusion’s policies and strategic plan.

Oversea the recruitment and support of volunteers in the centres. As applicable Overseeing student placements.

Actively participate in local area networks.

Oversea the promotion of programs and projects within the centre.

Assist to develop and implement policies and produce.

Complete administrative tasks of the Community centre including answering phones, responding to inquiries, finance systems,  keeping statistics and data management.

To recruit and work with an advisoray team that helps ensure the programs are relevant to the need of the local area. 


  1. Work in a safe manner in line with Fusions Code of Conduct, Policy, Procedure, and applicable legislation. 
  2. Staying aware of new developments in Community Development and of social issues in the local area.
  3. Demonstrate values of justice, respect, empathy, advocacy and concern for individuals.
  4. Coordinate the delivery of a range of programs, classes and projects as part of Fusion’s Oakleigh Youth and Community Centre. Ensuring team, resources are in place.  This needs to be done in a way that is responsive to community needs and is creative. At times this will include the actual program delivery.
  5. To chair a quarterly meeting with advisory team to ensure that program is meeting the needs of local area.
  6. Create a welcoming environment in the Community Centre.
  7. Provide information and referral
  8. Carry out risk assessments and WPHS assessments in line with Fusion’s policies
  9. Liase with local stakeholders including neighbors, community members, local agencies and churches to help design a program that meets local needs.
  10. Ensure good publicity for the centres programs including updating term flier, “live and learn”
  11. Record expenditures from petty cash floats
  12. Keep accurate records of attendance and program statistics.
  13. Ensure database kept up to date.
  14. Work with Team Leader to develop strategic plan for the community centres
  15. Work with Team leader to develop budget for community centre
  16. Participate in fortnightly staff meeting and regular supervision meetings.
  17. Participate in Monash Neighbourhood House Meeting and Niech Meeting and other forums as negotiated.
  18. Look for and submit grant applications as applicable in consultation with Team Leader.
  19. Doing shopping for resources for the centre.

Job Requirements:

Person Specifications:

Willingness to work within a framework of Christian values, Fusion’s Code of Conduct, mission and to participate in Fusion’s training

Qualifications in Community Development or Social Work and advantage.

Ability to be creative and come up with new ideas, and have the skills to implement these ideas.

Ability to promote and market programs inline with a clear PR plan.

Demonstrate values of care, justice, respect, empathy and concern for individuals

Experience working in a team, empathy, flexibility, negotiation skills, ability to give and receive feedback and the ability to work independently

Ability to recruit and supervise a team of volunteers

Computer literate, including intermediate Microsoft Office use

Excellent time management skills

Excellent communication –written and verbal

Position Requirements 

Qualifications in Community Development or Social Work and advantage 

Current Working with Children’s Check

Consent for Fusion to conduct a National Police Records Check every 3 years

Agreement to work within Fusion’s Code of Conduct

Current driver’s license
