Job Description:

Excellent classroom teachers are foundational to the learning environment at Danebank. As such, teachers are responsible for creating and maintaining effective learning environments which support the learning needs of the students.

Danebank teachers are organised, enthusiastic and passionate about the potential of their students. They are life-long learners themselves, modelling excellent learning and developing positive professional relationships with students, parents and colleagues. They skilfully develop relevant, structured learning opportunities with clear time-frames and deadlines, where process as well as content is made explicit and where students are encouraged to demonstrate their learning in a variety of ways and settings.

Teachers must ensure that they meet all NESA requirements in the delivery of curriculum, as well as working with individual students to support and/or extend their underlying abilities. Classroom teachers must also meet Danebank’s expectations in supporting the wellbeing, spiritual and co-curricular needsof the students in their care, in the context of the School’s ethos and Code of Conduct.

Job Requirements:

Key Roles/Duties/Responsibilities

Teaching and Learning

  1. Creates inclusive, supportive learning environments that model Christian world views

  2. Plans and implements coherent, well sequenced teaching and learning programs that engage students and promote learning

  3. Uses a range of teaching strategies verbal and non-verbal, to deliver quality teaching that is responsive to the learning strengths and individual needs of students

  4. Purposely integrates literacy, numeracy and ICT into teaching and learning programs

  5. Demonstrates experience assisting students to achieve learning outcomes across all Stages of NESA Human Society and Its Environment (HSIE) curriculum

  6. Demonstrates ability to work collaboratively to develop curriculum and assessments

  7. Uses continuous assessment for, as and of learning and constructive feedback to inform teaching practices as well as assess and instructive

  8. Expects a quest for excellence and ensures appropriate academic and behavioural outcomes from each student, working with the Head of Department and Year Coordinators to ensure that these are met.

  9. Works collaboratively with HSIE staff, Year Coordinators, Learning Enrichment Team, School Counsellors/Clinical Psychologists, House Patrons

  10. Works with Students, Parents/Carers, Administration Staff regarding matters that may affect student learning

Experience/Skills Required

  • A personal Christian faith and commitment, demonstrating a commitment to Christian teaching practice
  • Experience teaching HSIE Subjects to HSC level. Current focus is on Business Studies, Economics, Legal Studies, Commerce
  • and Junior Geography, although other HSIE subject combinations will be considered
  • Ability to deliver effective pedagogy in an innovative and engaging manner
  • Effective interpersonal communication skills
  • Professional and personal integrity
  • Being flexible and open to change
  • Being proactive and innovative
  • Technologically literate and experienced in the integration of technology
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a range of people in teamwork situations
  • Involvement in co-curricular activities
  • Commitment to one’s own ongoing learning

Licenses/Certificates/Qualifications Required

  • Qualification in Secondary education
  • Tertiary qualification in HSIE subjects
  • Accredited with NESA
  • Working With Children Check required
