Job Description:

Thomas Hassall Anglican College is a Prep to Year 12 co-educational school serving the south western suburbs of Sydney. Established in 2000, the College currently enrols 1700 students.  Applicants must be able to support the School’s Christian values and be enthusiastic participants in the School’s pastoral care and co-curricular programs. 
The College is seeking to appoint a dynamic, energetic, experienced and suitably qualified School Counsellor to commence in 2019.  This person must have a high level of comfort with change, be open to engage in a variety of tasks and be flexible and willing to be involved in a range of activities. The successful candidate must have a strong understanding of child and adolescent development and associated issues, which influence their lives.
There is a unique opportunity to work as part of a passionate school psychologist team to deliver professional psychological services to students and their families; while enjoying excellent collegiality, professional development, support and supervision. The School Counsellor will report to the Principal via the Head of Student Counselling.

Job Requirements:

Selection Criteria: 

  • Be registered as a psychologist with AHPRA
  • Experience counselling children using evidence-based interventions
  • Proven ability to work within a team based environment
  • Provide a confidential and professional counselling service to students with academic, social and emotional needs
  • Have the expertise to administer and report upon psychometric testing of students and provide reports to both teachers and parents
  • Highly developed communication, interpersonal and organisational skills to assist in working with parents, teachers and executive staff.
  • A commitment to maintaining confidential case files and ensuring high levels of discretion and confidentiality
  • Be a committed Christian and an active member of a church

Desired Criteria 

  • Experience as a Counsellor within a School setting would be viewed favourably
  • Recommending relevant, classroom based strategies to teachers and support staff for assistance with student behavioural management, self-regulation issues, social competency skills etc.
  • Make recommendations in relation to students individual learning plans when required
  • Advise staff and parents of appropriate referral options for students identified as needing additional support
  • Participate in Crisis Management when situations arise
