Job Description:

Wesley Homelessness Services

• full-time position
• based in Ashfield and Eastern Suburbs/South Sydney
• immediate start

About us
Wesley Mission is a high profile, multi-faceted Christian organisation making a real difference in the community. We work with the most disadvantaged in our community by providing over 200 services ranging from aged care, homeless services, child and family care, counselling, employment, training and education, and health services.

Our Vision is “Do all the good you can, by all the means you can, in all the ways you can, in all the places you can, at all the times you can, to all the people you can, as long as ever you can.”

About the role
An exciting opportunity exists for an experienced, motivated and teachable person to champion our very local response to homelessness and homeless-risk in the Eastern Suburbs and South Sydney.  As both leader and a peer amongst colleagues, you will captain a small team of case managers dedicated to ‘whatever it takes for as long as it takes’ as you support our homeless neighbours to leave homelessness for good.

This is a demanding but rewarding role, requiring initiative, resilience, collaboration, creativity and genuine compassion.  It involves working from offices for now in Ashfield and neighbouring districts, in partner organisations, rough sleeping locations and in homes of our formerly-homeless or at-risk clients.  It may include some earlier starts or later finishes in order to meet particular local needs.  It will require travel across the districts in which we deliver services.

Job Requirements:

Essential criteria
• qualifications and experience relevant to the provision of quality case management services – including the guidance of others engaged in it
• sound understanding of homelessness and an ease in providing warm and credible empathy to people who are at risk of, who are, or who have been homeless – often at their most distressed or vulnerable
• ability to articulate practice that is person centred, trauma informed, culturally competent and respectful of diversity, and the role of case management in supporting permanent exits from homelessness
• ability to perform in very complex and challenging community welfare settings – flexible and creative approaches to work, matched with tested personal attributes such as resilience, patience, initiative, compassion and commitment to self-care
• emotional intelligence, ability to teach and be taught, to lead and be led, and to supervise and be supervised
• communication skills and administrative competencies – computer literacy, documentation, data collection, etc
• ability to embrace Wesley Mission’s values and to work within its codes of ethics and conduct – and to work respectfully alongside the mission and values of partner organisations

Desirable criteria
• local, sector or organisational knowledge
• familiarity with sector practice guidelines, information systems and outcome measures

Remuneration
Salary and employment conditions are in accordance with the Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services Industry Award 2010, Level 5, with generous salary packaging and a fully maintained branded motor vehicle available.

Closing date
Wednesday 20 June 2018
