CBM Australia is a key member of the CBM global network and has in its remit strong field programming and advocacy work as well as fundraising.

The Inclusive Development Department (IDD) is responsible for advocacy, policy, research, technical advice and capacity development around disability inclusive development. We work with a range of national and international development partners and contractors to support disability inclusion in their work.

The Role

The Advocacy and Communications Officer sits in the Policy and Advocacy team and reports to the Policy and Advocacy Manager. This position develops and implements a resource plan to support the implementation of the policy and advocacy strategy. The role also acts as the internal communications focal point for the Inclusive Development Department and works collaboratively across departments and teams. This position works closely with the Communications Manager who sits in the Fundraising and Communications Department.

The Profile

To be successful the candidate must have:

  • Tertiary qualifications or demonstrated experience in a communications-related discipline
  • Excellent communication and written skills, including strong ability to write for different audiences, in editing and proof-reading, as well as ability to clearly and effectively negotiate changes with authors and design of content
  • Demonstrated organisational and time management skills with a strong attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills with experience working on and contributing to the management of organisation wide projects in a cross-functional environment
  • Demonstrated proactive attitude with an ability to adapt to changing priorities.
  • Brings creative thinking and new ideas to support the achievement of objectives
  • Commitment to CBM’s mission and values
  • A willingness to contribute to the growth and development of CBM and its work
  • An understanding of rights based development approaches (desirable)
